3 Shabby Chic Cards by Cathy Cafun

Posted on

Hi ladies, Cathy here,

I have a set of 3 cards which were created a little while ago, but was unable to share until now as they were published with Australian Cardmaking Stamping and Papercraft Magazine.

I thought I would show you how you can make a few quick and easy cards with a 6″ paper pad and product from the Manor House Creations.

Here are 3 cards I created, using MHC Flowers, Ornate Frames and Flexible Words.

MH - Valentine Cards blog

Love You Forever

MH Valentine Card 1 blog

Valentine 1 closie blog

On this card I altered the blossoms to give them more dimension by pinching the centre back of the flower between your fingers.  Place a little bit of tape at the back of the flower to hold the pinched section, then top with a pearl, bead or brad.

The large white flower was altered by lightly inking the edges of the petals, then backing with distressed mesh ribbon for a shabby chic feel.

Beautiful You Collection – Mixed Media LO

Posted on

Hi Cathy here,

Today I am sharing a mixed media layout using the gorgeous “Beautiful You” collection of pattern papers and flowers from the Winter 2014 Collection.

MHC LO - Beautiful blog

To create the background I tore the yellow “In My Thoughts” pp diagonally, then backed it with the pink side of the “Fresh and New” pp.  I masked over the top using a floral stencil design and modelling paste.  Once dry, I misted with water and randomly added dabs of mimosa IZink, then spritzed with water again to created a watercolour effect.  I dried off and repeated with the geranium IZink.

MHC LO - Beautiful closie blog

I have used one of the Journal spots from the “Journal Sheet” pp, which I cut down into a banner to create my title, then lightly swiped the edges with gesso.

MHC LO - Beautiful closie 3 blog

You would probably all know that I love to fussy cut.  Here I have fussy cut some of the roses from the pp’s to tuck in amongst my flower clusters.

MHC LO - Beautiful closie 2 blog

I also fussy cut the clock section from the “Fresh and New” pp to make a little cluster down the side of my photo.

Layout by Cathy Cafun – CSI 139

Hi Everyone,

Today I am sharing a layout inspired by this week’s case file at Color Stories Inspiration, using gorgeous flowers from Manor House.

CSI 139 - This is Bliss rs

Love the denim rosettes.  They come in light, dark and floral as well as mixed packs.  Here I altered the light denim rosette by lightly swiping with gesso and adding a brad to the centre.

The country roses are the pefect filler when creating flower clusters.  I have swiped the roses with a little gesso to tie in with my mixed media background.

CSI 139 closie 2 rs

I needed a slightly smaller flower for my top cluster, so I pulled off the bottom layer from one of the oh so pretty flowers, then folded the bottom layer over and tucked it under my photo.

Spring is blooming!

Hi everyone – Sonia here with a bit of Springtime creating! I love this time of the year as the flowers start to bloom and the butterflies emerge, not to mention the sun starts to heat up a bit! The new Country Estate is a fabulous range to help get in the Spring mood and I used the gorgeous ‘New Day’ paper as the base for my layout – how beautiful are the images?!!

Country Estate - New dayI added some Misting Spray in Lime Wedge to highlight the green tones in the paper:

SONY DSCProducts used: Paper – Country Estate ‘New Day‘. Flowers – Mia in Green, Glitz in Lemon and Country Roses in White

The printed paper underneath the photo is the reverse side of the New Day paper – it’s wonderful when both sides of the paper are as gorgeous as each other!

The Glitz flower was slightly too big for my cluster so I removed the outer layer of petals to create a flower that fitted in perfectly.

Anything is Possible – Layout by Cathy Cafun

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may know, I am on the Design Team for Colour Stories Inspiration (CSI).  This week’s Color Stories Inspiration Challenge 137 was such a pretty colour palette, I just couldn’t resist adding some Manor House flowers to my layout.  Here is my interpretation of the challenge.

Anything is Possible

MHC Anything is Possible - CSI rs

CSI 137

I have used one of the Colourwash Doubleups in soft pink as the base for my flower cluster, then layered with some yellow Sunflowers and white Minuettes from the pink mix pack.  The sunflowers were altered by pulling out the stamens and replacing with crochet doiles and a brad.  I also added a crochet doily to the double up flower which I pulled apart using the larger flower and keeping the centre flower for another project.

Happiness is catching – Sonia Thomason

I love it when you look at photos and you can’t help but smile or laugh! I find photos of children are often like that, pure joy on their faces as they enjoy the wonders of life. This photo of Isabella is one of my favourites – the camera has caught her at a moment of pure happiness and it sure is catching!
The gorgeous background on the Thoughts Wandering ‘Beautiful’ paper provides a perfect backdrop to your photos with it’s neutral tones:
THW - Beauitful_smI have used some mists over the page just to highlight the soft blue around the paper and in the flowers and a splash of beetroot colour to pick up the pop of colour from the Country Rose:

SONY DSC

Products used: Papers – Thoughts Wandering ‘Beautiful’ and Country Estate ‘Elements‘. Flowers – Denim Rosettes Light Mix, Country Blues Denim, Country Estate Mix, Country Roses in Beetroot and Azure Blue and a Vine. Embellishments – Felt Doilies in Cream, Beautiful You chipboard Words (Laugh) and Cotton Tag

I adore the font used in the chipboard word – so elegant!

SONY DSC

The Beetroot of the Country Rose just adds that little pop of colour that the page needs

The Felt Doilies are perfect for adding texture and movement to your page:

As you can see I’ve mixed and matched the flowers from different collections but the blues go together perfectly and the Beetroot adds in some colour that helps the page come together.

Beautiful You Inspiration from Melinda Thompson

Hello to you all 🙂

I have recently completed a project using the very gorgeous “Beautiful You” paper collection as well as lots of stunning blooms! This paper range begs to be fussy cut so I cut out some of the flowers in the paper and arranged them on my layout. I used plain white cardstock for the base…which is so unlike me…but these colours look amazing and so crisp against a white background.

“Time Flies”

Melinda Thompson - August 2014

Some closes ups…..love the hot pinks and bright yellows together.  I have mixed a matched flowers from new and past releases, the different sizes and styles look amazing together.  I have also used a Felt Doiley in Hot Pink and a lace flower (Lullaby) to add layers behind my photo.

Melinda Thompson - August 2014-4

Love these chipboard frames.  I have altered them by priming with Gesso first then adding some Shimmerz Inklingz in Pink a Boo and then while it was still wet I sprinkled it with some Shimmerz Enamalz in Gold Digger…its so sparkly.. 🙂 Then for added interest I added on some cute little chipboard hearts up the side.

Country Estate Collection – Your Sweet Smile

Posted on

Hi everyone, Cathy here, sharing a LO created using the beautiful Country Estate collection.  This paper collection has a matching sheet of diecuts, and also has a range of gorgeous flowers and chipboard pack to tie in with the papers.

YOUR SWEET SMILE

To create this LO I used both sides of the New Day pp and punched some strips of the green side of the Birdsong pp, then layered them to create my background.

MH - Country Estate - Sweet Smile rs

I have framed the photograph with a mix of flowers combined with the black rosette ornate frame which I cut up and tucked in amongst the flowers.

sweet smile closie 1 rs

The midnight frilly roses were altered by pulling out the centre bud and replacing with a fabric brad.

 sweet smile closie 4 rs

Love the Ornate Frames.  Here I have used the roses frame which I have cut into smaller pieces. I have kept the label frame section which can be used by tucking under some pp to cover the cut edges.

LO by Cathy Cafun – Beautiful Smile

Hi everyone, Cathy here with a LO to share created with some of the flowers from the Winter 2014 Collection and the new felt doilies.   The bones of this LO was created a while ago and was the inspiration for a Canvas class that I taught.  I have had it sitting in my pile of projects for a while and thought I would finish it off using some of the gorgeous flowers from the Winter 2014 Collection.

Love Your Beautiful Smile

MHC - Beautiful Smile rs

These pretty girly papers were a perfect match for the gorgeous chantilly lace flower and country roses.

To get the most out of your felt doilies when layering, don’t use the whole doily.  Just cut off the section needed and save the rest for another project.
